Gloria Patri et Matri et Filio et Filiae
et Spiritui Sancto externo et Spiritui Sancto interno,
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum.
Thank you for your interest in the Coptic Gnostic Church.
I am Abba Dositheos. I have a strong interest in esoteric studies. I am very open minded and non-dogmatic. I have a history of study and practice in various traditions. I have found that the paths I have encountered tend to compliment and feed into each other. I feel gnosis is universal and perennial and can be found at the heart of all true spiritual paths. I have been granted the opportunity to receive Holy Orders. I was ordained Subdeacon, Deacon, Exorcist and Priest in August of 2007 by T Allen Greenfield of the Assembly of the Knowledge and Wisdom of Solomon. This was a profound experience for me and I have happily taken up service as my life’s vocation. Seven months later, in March of 2008, I was raised to the Episcopate. My primary consecrator was T Allen Greenfield, with Tau Naamah and Tau HRMAShT co-consecrating. Then in July of 2008 I was consecrated sub conditione by +Thomas Dionysius Langley, Archbishop-Catholicos of the Alexandrian Gnostic Church with Tau Galahad and Tau Ishaviva co-consecrating. The lines of succession I hold include both Gnostic and Apostolic lineages. I am humbled by this. My life has been radically transformed by my ordination and consecration.
In June of 2008 we formed a “Successions Research Group” to study the various lines of succession. These sessions ultimately generated the formation of an independent ecclesiastical body called the Coptic Gnostic Church (CGC). After the first two or three sessions, we made a decision to put the successions research on hold and formed a “Sacrament Research Group”. The Sacrament Research Group has been divided into two phases. In phase 1 we had an introductory session, followed by a single session (monthly) per sacrament to get a general overview of how the sacraments have been implemented historically in both the Apostolic and Gnostic traditions. Phase 2 began in April of 2009. The focus of phase 2 is to develop our own sacraments as they will be used within the CGC. We are spending as much time as we need per sacrament. At the conclusion of phase 2 we will have developed all seven sacraments and will then begin to offer these as service to the general public.
We have reformed the Successions Research Group as well. We have multiple source documents that contain the lines of succession from T Allen and Bishop Langley. The project we are working on now is to “marry” all the information in the separate documents into one exhaustive successions document. This is in progress as I write this.
We also host a monthly Gnostic Study Circle which focuses on selected Gnostic texts from the Nag Hammadi and other sources. These Gnostic Study Circles are open to the public. We meet for the study circle every second Sunday of the month.
